Citizens in one sun-blasted corner of the map have reported that a flamingo-themed crossing sign is carrying itself with an attitude usually reserved for nightclub doormen and school governors.

Witnesses say the sign’s stance is “oddly managerial,” with one local claiming it has been “sending people across with confidence, like it owns the pavement.”

The sign itself, being inanimate and famously unhelpful, has declined to comment. Nevertheless, rumours have spread that it is secretly directing the flow of pedestrians, scooters and at least one confused man with shopping bags.

Some locals have begun crossing the road just to avoid making eye contact with it. Others say the flamingo is merely bringing “strong summer energy” to the district, which is fair enough.

Either way, the neighbourhood now treats the sign as if it might start charging rent.
