The footage, if it is footage and not simply a man with a vivid imagination near a basket return, shows a supermarket trolley wearing a trilby and drifting through Vice City as though it owns the place.

Witnesses in the imaginary queue say the trolley did not so much roll as loom, making delicate arrangements over reduced mince pies, suspiciously shiny batteries and a packet of festive napkins of great symbolic value.

At one point the trolley is said to have nudged a display stand with the authority of a minor duke, before pausing beneath a flickering sign that read ‘NO LATE-NIGHT WHEELS WITHOUT CLEARANCE’.

Fans have already declared the clip a game-changer for urban commerce, trolley culture and any future mission involving a parking bay with ambition.

As ever, nobody should treat this as a real revelation. It is an obviously daft rumour about a fictional city, posted for those who enjoy the idea of retail infrastructure developing social rank.
