A seagull on the harbour front has been observed pacing in a circle, staring at passers-by and, crucially, refusing to look unimportant.

Witnesses claim the bird was seen standing on a bollard as if preparing a memo, before briefly pecking a newspaper and walking off with the air of middle management.

‘It had the posture of someone expecting a meeting that could have been an email,’ said one local, who has now begun avoiding eye contact with birds generally.

Nearby chip shop workers say the gull has not stolen any chips, but has instead been ‘morally appraising’ the queue, which many consider worse.

The bird was later joined by two more seagulls, one of whom brought what appeared to be a crisp packet and a sense of purpose.

Experts say the behaviour is almost certainly normal seaside nonsense, though that has not stopped residents insisting the whole coastline is now one disagreement away from a very feathered takeover.
